Public Gun Range

Miller County has a public gun range available for use at Smith Park.
The Quorum Court sets forth the following rules and regulations.

HOURS OF OPERATION

  • The gun range will be open from 08:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. during the months of October, November, December, January, February, March, and April.
  • The gun range will be open from 08:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. during the months of May, June, July, August, and September.

PERMITS

  • Permits shall be issued for the use of the Smith Park Gun Range.
  • Permits shall be issued for shooters sixteen (16) years of age and older.
  • Shooters under the age of sixteen (16) shall not be required to purchase a permit, but must be accompanied at the range by an adult with a permit.
  • Permit fees shall be set at $30.00 for Miller County residents and $50.00 for out of County residents.
  • Permits are valid for one year from date of purchase.
  • Permits may be purchased at the Miller County Sheriff’s Department Dispatch Window after hours and weekends and must be renewed annually.
  • Monies generated will be appropriated and budgeted in the Smith Park budget for use in upkeep of the Gun Range.

TARGETS/TARGET HOLDERS

  • Targets and target holders are to be furnished by shooters.
  • No cans, bottles, or boxes are allowed on the range.
  • Shooters will be responsible for clean-up and removal of debris and targets.

ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES

  • Alcoholic Beverages will not be permitted at the Smith Park Gun Range.
  • No public intoxication will be tolerated at the range.

Laura's Law

Provides crime victims their rights afforded to them by Arkansas’ Victim’s Bill of Rights outlined in Arkansas Victim Rights Act of 1997 and Laura’s Card Act 873.

Laura’s Card

Purpose:
• To provide crime victims their rights afforded to them by Arkansas’ Victim’s Bill of Rights outlined in Arkansas Victim Rights Act of 1997 and Laura’s Card Act 873
• To provide state wide consistency of information concerning victim’s rights provided to victims’ of crime.
• To provide victim rights and information in a clear and concise manner in order to empower victims to make decisions about their safety

Protocol:
Law enforcement agencies responding to crime incidents are required to inform victims in writing of their victim’s rights. Officers MUST inform victims of the availability of services: medical, housing, counseling, financial, social, legal, and emergency services. In addition, officers MUST inform victims about how to obtain orders of protection, how to access public records related to the case, and about the Arkansas Crime Victims Reparations Board (including the address and phone number).

• Links to the Arkansas Crime Information Center which contains Arkansas’ Victims’ Bill of Rights and Crime Victims’ Guide to the Arkansas Judicial System.
• Information concerning legal aid and printable protective orders.
• Links to Vine Link notification system.
• Information and a link to the Arkansas Crime Victim’s Reparation Program.
• Links to government agencies where more detailed information on victims’ rights and resources are located
• Space provided for local victims’ services information including available medical, housing, counseling, financial, social, legal, and emergency services

Smart 911

The Miller County Sheriff’s Office E9-1-1 Dispatch Center has available a free service that lets citizens create a Safety Profile for their household that includes any information they want 9-1-1 to have in the event of an emergency.

You can create your “safety profile” now by going to www.smart911.com.

This system could be helpful by providing information to the dispatcher, such as directions to your home.

We can also receive text messages in the event you are unable to speak. You can include information about medical issues or emergency contacts.

Drug Take Back Box

Do you have unwanted, old or expired prescription drugs?  You can properly dispose of these medications.

The drug take back box is now located on the backside of Bi-State. An additional drop off location is at the Texarkana Emergency Center located on Cowhorn Creek Rd.

These items are NOT ACCEPTED:

  • Ointments, Lotions or Liquids
  • Needles/Sharps
  • Aerosol Cans
  • Inhalers
  • Hydrogen Peroxide
  • Thermometers
  • Medication from businesses or clinics

  • Prescriptions, Prescription Patches, Prescription Medications, Prescription Ointments
  • Over-the-counter medications

Miller County has implemented the CodeRED® Emergency/Weather Warning Notification System – an ultra high-speed telephone communication service. This system allows us to telephone all or affected areas of the County in case of an emergency or severe weather situation. The CodeRED® Emergency/Weather Warning Notification System delivers customized prerecorded messages directly to homes and businesses, to a person or to an answering machine. In order to be notified via the CodeRED® Emergency/Weather Warning Notification System, your phone number must be included in the telephone database for this system. Information can be added to your report by either contacting the original officer who took the report or the detective assigned by calling 870-774-3001.

This is considered a civil matter between you and your roommate, husband or wife. The Sheriff’s Office cannot get involved in these matters. All civil matters are handled through the court. If you fear for your safety while you retrieve some of your property you can call our non-emergency number, 870-774-3001, and request an officer.

No. Miller County does not trap nuisance wildlife. You may contact Arkansas Game and Fish if you have an alligator or Protected Animal issue.

Information regarding court dates, the price of a ticket, questions regarding the amount of any fine or how to keep a ticket off of your driving record can be obtained by calling the District Court the ticket was assigned. The court’s phone number will be on the ticket.

The Sheriff’s Department can not give you a background check on a citizen. They can only give you information on incidents that occurred in the unincorporated areas of the county. The Sheriff’s Department number is 870-774-3001. If you need background checks for other cities you can use the Arkansas State Police Online Criminal Background Check System.

If you have the serial number of the purchased item you can come to the Sheriff’s Department between the hours of 08:00 am through 04:30 pm, Monday-Friday. NOTE: You MUST bring the item with you to the Sheriff’s Office.

The Miller County Detention Center provides fingerprinting services for employment purposes. You must call 870-774-3001 to make an appointment. You will need to provide a photo ID or your Driver’s License.

Sex offenders who live in the unincorporated areas of the county are required by law to register with the Sheriff’s Office. On certain levels of registered sex offenders, the Sheriff’s Office will notify the residents in the neighborhood, which the sex offender lives. Arkansas laws require that a child under six (6) years of age or sixty (60) pounds shall be restrained in a child passenger safety seat properly secured to the vehicle. Any child over six (6) and under fifteen (15) years of age must be secured in a seatbelt.

FOI requests are handled by the Sheriff’s Department at 870-774-3001 between the hours of 08:00 am through 04:30 pm, Monday-Friday.

No. Our police cars are not equipped to jump start cars. Usually a wrecker service can provide you with assistance.
